Bulgarian Lavender Oil has a stand-alone scent that is very different to the rest of the world's Lavendula angustifolia oils. Somehow the geographic elements of the country create very unique variation of the Lavendula angustifolia species, which is native to Bulgaria. The most important thing to understand when comparing Bulgarian Lavender Oil to other Lavender oils is that Bulgarian Lavender Oil has a deeper, more fixative scent with a more "woody" herbaceous note, whereas French lavender has a lighter more "floral" herbaceous note. The Bulgarian Lavender is more "Woody" than the other Lavender Oils, so if one is used to French Lavender Oil typically, this will be quite different. The general air-humidity, regular precipitation and well-drained loamy soil in Bulgaria makes for the perfect conditions for the cultivation of this plant and therefore tend to produce a better quality yield with more consistently.
Bulgaria is one of the largest producers of lavender and lavender oil in the world. Bulgarian Lavender is generally grown in lower regions and is easier to grow, French lavender tends to favour higher altitudes and cooler climates, which naturally makes it harder to cultivate. Lavender Bulgarian Oil is high in both Linalool and Linalyl acetate- two naturally occurring constituents which are known for having a plethora of therapeutic properties. Although the medicinal and healing properties between French Lavender and Bulgarian Lavender are very similar – the only noticeable difference between the two is the scent.
