The Geranium plant is perennial shrubby plant, native to Southern Africa and of all the many varieties of Geranium, Pelargonium Graveolens is the most commonly used variety for the production of essential oil. Egypt is now the main producer of Pelargonium Graveolens due to its fertile and rich soil on the borders of the Nile River. It has a sweet floral scent and the oil is widely used in aromatherapy as contains a number of beneficial compounds.

In fact, Geranium is considered the "poor man's rose" and its oil is often the alternative to the more expensive rose oil.
